The Xtremlab site has been telling us for about the last 2 weeks that it is down for "a few hours", and will be back on Friday (doesn't say Friday of which week).

Any news anyone?

It used to be a nice background project, so I didn't mind too much the fact that the admins only looked at the message boards every couple of months or so

I asked the admin about it on the 19th. He responded with "There was a serious issue with the server that we have to fix. Thanks for your patience."

Ah well, I'll take that to mean that reports of the project's death are greatly exaggerated.

Thats good to know. Please inform the administrators to take 2 minutes and let their supporters know it. They dont have to give any date but just state "we having server problems will be back asap. thanks for patience."

XtremLab is comming back in a few hours...

We are upgrading some software and doing some database maintenance. The server should be back online on friday.

Except that it has been saying that for 12 days. We've already passed two Fridays and they are still not online.

An update was all that is being asked for.

Presumably the admins will disregard deadline dates in cases where you were prevented from reporting results while their servers were down...

Still, it won't do any harm to leave the work units to be reported when (or if!) the servers come back up again, and aborting the work units or detaching from the project will definitely not be of any benefit to you.


Anyway, we should all be used to no news from the project by now, and as for asking the admins a question via the message boards

I wonder how many times Xtremlab will crash with all these stale units reporting once they are back up.

New message on their home page:

"Our server is temporarily closed. It will reopened before Friday 07/11/2007. The server operating system, the database and BOINC software have been upgraded. A new non-cpu intensive version of XtremLab will be also released.

Sorry for the inconvenience during the upgrading process."

I just realized that the 7th is not a Friday in November. That must be a typo. I assume they meant the 7th of December, which is a Friday.

Or maybe the 9th of November.

Could someone from Boinc contact Xtremlab again in order to find out latest.
They should at least update their webpage. It has said the same for 1-2 months. Thanks
