Hello everyone, i'm motionSymmetry.

I just attached to FreeHAL about 3 days ago and altho it seems to be crunching i'm having a problem.

Problem: The project won't show any credit, but most task are requesting zero credit or have hyphens in the request credit column in My Account on the FreeHAL site. All task show Success as the outcome but zero credit is awarded for all tasks.

The thing is, the project always requests 1 second of work, the tasks run from zero seconds to about 15 seconds, and when I look at one of the tasks that has had a real runtime, its outcome is a Success, and it shows as valid, I get something like this in stderr out:

<core_client_version>6.2.19</core_client_version>
<![CDATA[

app exit status: 0x2

</stderr_txt>
]]>

(note: the smilies that are showing up in the Preview for this message are actually a colon and the "p" in the word "parse_override&quot

I've also noticed that on the server status page for FreeHAL the app /usr/local/bin/freehal_validator is not running. Is that app on *my* box?

What i've done to try and solve this problem: I detached and reattached. Rebooted.

I'm running Vista SP1 and BoincManager 6.2.19.

I also tried posting in the FH forums but i'm still waiting for the confirmation email. And yes, I realize they are beta and have been dealing with server-side issues, but talking with other members of Calm Chaos, my team, who have similar setups indicates that they are not having these problems.

So I posted here.

Hope this is the right place.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Regards.

Hi motionSymmetry,

FreeHAL writes temporary files in C:\Windows\TEMP\ or another directory specified in the system preferences (environment variables). The user under which BOINC runs has no right to create files there:

Code:
.\runner.exe: creation of private temporary subdirectory [...] failed - aborting

Please look at C:\Windows\TEMP and grant all users the permission to write there

Best regards

Mystery solved!

Thank you, Tobias. FreeHAL is now happily crunching away.

Is there any special settings I have to make to get the FreeHal Wu's to run long enough to Validate & get Credit, Tobias said something about:

@all,

FreeHAL connects to de.wikipedia.org and en.wikipedia.org on port 80 and downloads articles. Then the results are uploaded here, at freehal.org (85.214.56.80)

Most of the Wu's I run either don't Validate or they Validate but don't recieve any Credit, Tobias told me:

FreeHAL is unable to connect to the internet when running on your computers.

Error creating socket: Unknown error

I use Comcast, and crunch FreeHAL with no errors. XP64 is the OS I am using, FWIW.

Same here Zombie, running XP64 on all my Box's, I noticed your Box's there where running okay so I don't have any Idea why mine aren't, maybe their Overclocked to much, but I doubt that as 1 Box is Bone Stock running and it was getting the errors too ... Might be 1 Project I'll have to let you go on as I have to Process a couple dozen Wu's just to get 2 or 3 Credits ... ... Never have had any luck running the Project from it's start till now ...

My dual Xeons are not OC (obviously), but all my C2Qs are OC mildly.
