I finally categorized the projects. You can see the categorization here.

I don't know all projects very well and sometimes I simply didn't know where to put it. Also, I may have put some projects in the wrong category.

There may also be categories that are missing.

If you like you can review the list and help me put the projects in the correct categories.

yoyo is an odd one as it does maths/physics and biology applications.

You should add the column to Sign-up for projects too (at least), to support users looking for a new project.

I will. And in other places as well. But first I want the list to be accurate.

I would suggest that WUProj@Home (which should be corrected to WUProp@Home) could be categorized as Computing.

With WUProp I agree with Magyarficko, even about the spelling
NQueens is about chess, like Chess960, should be "Games" as well.
Goldbach is up to now just testing (if at all with nothing but Gazillions of UpperCases), will one day perhaps be "Mathematics"

You should perhaps make a new category: Permanent testing
Members are: Pirates, CPDNbeta, RALPH, SetiBeta, BOINC-Alpha

Edges, yoyo, Almere and Ibercivis are quite heterogeneous umbrella projects, WCG a bit less, as climate is not running ATM. Extra category as well?

I think Virtual Prairie falls under the Ecology/Earth Science category more than Biology. Also, I don't think WCG should be in the "Medicine" category. Perhaps there should be a special category for those projects which deal with multiple fields? IBERCIVIS would be in that category also.

This is a good idea, yet I'd like to be able to choose whether to sort the projects list by category or alphabetically.

TIA

How shall we name that category? "Umbrella projects" sounds like they try to keep people dry.

Your XML files are not zipped. You should really do that. Not just because it saves you bandwidth, but also because my code (and I expect most other stats gatherers as well) expect them to be zipped.

There was nothing wrong with Saenger's "heterogeneous" ... also how about the more simple "diverse", or "multi-disciplined"?

In German it would be "Dachprojekt", and my usual online dictionary suggested either master project or better umbrella project. Perhaps some native English speakers can come up with the right name for such a thing.

I will definitely use the term "Dachprojekt" in my translation, once Willy puts it in the translation tool.

Perhaps Universal, along with WCG, etc. As long as this doesn't give a perceived advantage....

I don't know the underlying data base and how much effort it would require to realise it in HTML, but if it's possible to establish a 1:n relation, all those heterogenous projects would get a list of categories (of the subprojects), and they would appear in each appropriate category. So, a name for that "roof" or "umbrella" wouldn't be necessary.

That would require fairly frequent updating, since the sub projects come and go every couple of months.
