I know that all these projects are in the early stages currently and that both LHC Alpha and Malaria Control gain users periodically and at least LHC Alpha has quite a bit of work but I have a question for anyone that can answer it. What I'm wondering is how some of these new users to the projects get an account created and attach to the project when account creation is disabled. I have done testing on games before and always enjoyed it due to being able to help find bugs and make it better for everyone else and would love the chance to assist in the early development of these projects if possible. Any information is definitely appreciated.

You have to be lucky and enter a project while they have the doors open.

Haha yeah I thought that's how it'd be and that I'd have to wait until the doors were open. Since that 1 new user to LHC Alpha and Malaria Control yesterday it made me wonder if it wasn't on an invitation basis.

Thanks for the reply.

what are you using to determine that users are creating new accounts?

if you're going off the data from boincstats, keep in mind that it only shows users who have credit, so if a user has recently started doing work, and gaining credit, then they'll show up as a "new" user

Hi Cori,

Sorry to go off topic slightly, but what has happened to Primegrid? Is there any news?

The server of PG has it's port 80 blocked (courtesy of the ISP).

But Rytis will have some good news soon. With some luck, PG will have a much better connection in the near future.

seems it was just temporary, i can't access the site anymore, maybe the same problem occoured again, as in the news item about it (which i read while the site was briefly up) said that the connection was restored without them doing anything, we'll just have to wait and see

Server back upFor some reason we lost network connectivity on port 80 (http) three days ago. We blamed the ISP for that, but it seems that it had nothing to do with it - connectivity got restored with any actions from our side as suddenly as it was lost. Everyone should be able to report old work and get new tasks. In addition, if all goes well, we are going to move to a new server with much better connectivity real soon. If you hit retry repeatedly, you will get into the site. It may take you up to 5 or even more retries though. We are still unsure why it is like that. If you're just browsing the site, consider using port 8080 - it works much better ( http://www.primegrid.com:8080/ ).

Ok, the refresh worked after a couple of retries

True, and considering that Malaria allowed up to 500 users sign up, minus the few obvious bogus accounts they deleted... There's a thread about it on their board... BTW, some might laugh, but I could have had a Malaria account when it was in Alpha :rofl But I closed the browser and didn't go through with creation, and the next coupla days I changed my mind and it was then closed. Oh well

In the case of LHC Alpha, at this point it's if an admin allows one in... I know this happened in one case on LHC when the 5.x BOINC clients came out, because someone made mention and asked if they could test it... The LHC staff needed some more people to test some stuff with the new CC and specifically the account wizzard that was introduced with it, to get their servers ready for 5.x So the admin, or someone with such power (don't remember exactly who as it was awhile ago now) mentioned that per that guy's request, he was creating the account for them in the forums...
