I am running four machines, attached to an internal private network, using BOINC Manager 5.4.9. Three are Apple machines running Mac OS X 10.4.7, and the fourth is an Athlon Duo 2GHz running Windows XP Pro SP2. The internal private network is connected to the internet through a D-Link DSL604T ADSL modem/router/firewall. Network speed is 512/128.

Two of the Macs are slow G3s, and have only one project attached: seti@home.

The other Mac is a G4 Dual 1GHz machine, and — like its Windows partner — is running four projects: seti@home, einstein@home, SZTAKI desktop grid, world community grid.

I set up my bam account and was able to connect all four machines with little trouble, although I needed to do some tweaking so that each was connected to just the projects I wanted each to run.

Everything went fine for a few days, then the G4 mac dumped seti@home on the grounds of corrupted files. I found that the einstien@home statistics_ ...xml file had (somehow) overwritten the seti@home account_... xml file.

I reported this in detail (Loss of a Project Due Corrupt Account File) to both the BOINC Core Clent Message Board and bam general Message Board and have received no helpful replies.

I then noticed that all four machines had been unable to connect to bam some time after they were originally attached. The only complete record I have is from a iMac, the machine ckgg3imac.local with BAM ID 6042 and CPID c9adad1c23ab216feffbdc302de42d6e.

The first contact with <bam.boincstats.com> was 2006-08-09 00:07:00, and from thence at hourly intervals until 2006-08-23 07:12:40, which failed. All attempts thereafter failed.

Yesterday, I suppressed all new WU downloads on the Mac dual processor gwgg4pmac.local, and today Defect(ed) from BOINCstats BAM! I also deleted this host from my BAM account. I then repeatedly attempted to attach the machine to BAM, without success

The problem appears to be due to timeout. I then did a lookup on <bam.boincstats.com>, and it took 41 seconds to return the IP address! Assuming the address was now cached in the router, I repeated the attach to manager procedure.

It gets to the point of "communicating with server, please wait", and then fails with "no internet connection, Please connect to the internet and try again". This is a false assumption: I am connected all the time, and have no trouble downloading at full speed at any time.

A ping of <bam.boincstats.com> gives an average delay of 441ms, but a traceroute fails, doubling back to one of my ISP's servers. This last needs looking into.

The ISP says that they don't cache anything, and if he attempts to access <bam.boincstats.com> with a web browser, he gets a redirection to <www.boincstats.com/bam/>. Any attempt to access <bam.boincstats.com> on my browsers (cache and history cleared) results on a timeout. Error message on Safari is: "Safari could not open the page “http://bam.boincstats.com/” because the server stopped responding."

In desparation, I have reset my modem/router in case its cache is faulty, but still can't attach to <bam.boincstats.com>. If I go to <http://boinc.berkeley.edu/> and click on BAM! in the sentence on boince managers, it too fails on timeout with the same message as above, because the URL clicked on is <http://bam.boincstats.com/>.

Your server appears to be timing out on my connection attempts. Server contacted is 217.67.229.236.

Help! Please!
