my user name is xPOD and there are at least 3 other users with the same name, but all with different identifiers... one of the users is one of my accounts that got bifurcated.

case in point: xPOD (my team) and Xpod (Hungarian team)

can there be some case sensitivity put into play for stat tracking? I really would like to join WCG but I can't because Xpod (the other team) had registered prior to me signing up...

Since I have an active team, and the other team hasn't reported any WCG results in over 6 months - what are the guidelines to removing old accounts and/or what are the ethics in me 'getting' control of the xPOD name in WCG?

Can I simply contact the user and ask for permission to use the name?

I'm stuck because I'd really love to use BAM! to track all stats...

WCG is different from other BOINC projects, it's the only one with unique usernames.
The username is irrelevant for the stats, here only the CPID, and thus the email address, is important.

For Teams on the other hand there is no CPID, so teamnames are the only distinguishing item for them. There is a page in Berkeley where you can secure your team name for future projects, but for existing ones theere is only thr option via the project admin and goodwill from the other team founder.
