Why would a host stop contacting BAM for no apparent reason, although it continues contacting the projects it's attached to for weeks afterwards?

TIA

One reason only: when a contact fails it delays the next contact for 24 hours.

Even for days on end?

Thanks.

Nope, that would be a problem in the BOINC manager (client). I think (well, it's the easiest way out for me).

In acct_mgr_reply.xml, what's the value for <repeat_sec> on that system?

I wonder if it's a known issue in the client...

Unfortunately, I won't have access to the system for a while, that's why I asked about it here.

It simply stopped checking with BAM, although it continued crunching for the projects it was attached to.

One thing that I noticed was that the host name was changed (probably by another admin). Would this affect its dialog with BAM?

TIA

Host name: no. Host authenticator or Host CPID: yes.

Not the CPID, as it's the same one as before in the projects. But what's "host authenticator"?

It's added by BAM! to identify the host when you change your password.

If you mean the BAM password, it hasn't happened. What else could cause this issue?

One reason only: when a contact fails it delays the next contact for 24 hours.

This would mean the host would try to connect at the same time each day - this could be a problem if network access is not available during certain times.
Could the 24 hours be set to 23 hours? That way the host will try at a different time each day. Actually any number of hours with no common factors with 24 would work.
Thanks

Hi,

I think that I've the same problem and here is what BOINC Client complains about :
04/11/2008 15:09:38||Fetching configuration file from http://bam.boincstats.com/get_project_config.php
04/11/2008 15:09:44||Contacting account manager at http://bam.boincstats.com/
04/11/2008 15:11:21||Fetching configuration file from http://bam.boincstats.com/get_project_config.php
04/11/2008 15:12:53||Account manager contact succeeded
04/11/2008 15:12:53||[error] No signing key from account manager

The most important message is probably the last one.
I've tried different actions with no success, in order :

  1. Leaving BAM from BOINC manager and joining again
  2. Deleting Host in Boincstats and trying to join
  3. Upgrading from client 6.2.18 to 6.2.19 and trying to join
  4. Deleting files acct_mgr_request, acct_mgr_reply, get_current_version, get_project_config and trying to join

At this time I still can't join to BAM and I'v lost all history for my computer attached for months....

Could you please provide me a solution for joining BAM again.

Thanks in advance.
Thomas

Stats history is unrelated to BAM!. That depends on the host CPID which unfortunately isn't the most stable thing in the world.

For the signing key error: please post the contents of acct_mgr_reply.xml

Can you try again, I added some debug info. I'll need the new files.

Done, and no more success.
Here are the Boinc Client messages :
04/11/2008 16:35:38||Fetching configuration file from http://bam.boincstats.com/get_project_config.php
04/11/2008 16:35:46||Contacting account manager at http://bam.boincstats.com/
04/11/2008 16:35:47||Account manager contact succeeded
04/11/2008 16:35:47||[error] No signing key from account manager

And you can use the previous link, the new files are in the 'new files' sub-folder.

I didn't change anything yet, I added some debug info so I could find the problem.

I fixed a bug now but I'm not sure if it's related to your problem. You'll have to try again

Yes...
I think you found the right bug !!!...
Here is Boinc Client messages of my last attempt :
04/11/2008 17:12:55||Fetching configuration file from http://bam.boincstats.com/get_project_config.php
04/11/2008 17:13:01||Contacting account manager at http://bam.boincstats.com/
04/11/2008 17:13:06||Account manager: BAM! User-ID: 23331
04/11/2008 17:13:06||Account manager: BAM! Host-ID: 141194
04/11/2008 17:13:06||Account manager: This host connected 1 times to BAM!
04/11/2008 17:13:06||Account manager contact succeeded

And I'm now joined to BAM and have retrieved all statistics for this host (but with another BAM Host id....).

Thanks a lot, and hope I've helped you fixing some, even minor, bug
