You have a very detailed project vote from each user burried in the resource share allcation specified. You could just use this scaled so that the sum was 100 instead of the current mechanism for voting. With 60+ projects, restricting the vote to 10 seems a bit silly to me.

Good idea, every time I look there (once in a while) I'm a bit confused whether I shuld vote for more projects or more for the best ones.
10 is definitely too little.

I changed the ranking to:

  • take the resource shares (RS) assigned by the user
  • remove the RS of projects which don't active hosts assigned
  • calculate total RS
  • calculate the percentage of the total for each project -> this goes into the grand total

Top 6 remains unchanged from the user ranked list. For those with access to the beta test site, the new list is online there undre project ranking.

I also changed the old ranking:
max points is not 100 total, 10 per project.

Should be keep both lists, or only the new one?

What's up with users who have not attached their hosts to BAM! and thus have not changed the default resource share of 100?

What's up with non-cpu intensive projects like FreeHAL, Anansi and DynaPing where the resource share have no influence on the required work?
A share of 1 or 10000 have the same effect on asking new work, but will influence the project popularity.

That's right. But both methods have there flaws.

With the new method users have to attach hosts to BAM! and yes, resource share has no influence on non-CPU/GPU-intensive projects.

Ideas?

Not really, but IMO it's not a good idea to discard the users opinion with a BAM!-account, but without attached hosts.
You could make it clear that the resource share is also used for project popularity without using the Account Manager.

Well, you have to use the account manager, otherwise you don't have attached hosts (that BAM! knows of)
