Hi Guys,
i have several hosts running with WinXP and Linux. The all work fine and compute as they should, but FAQ (Link) says, that the boinc deamon (Linux) or boinc service (windows) should contact my Account every hour.

Unfortunately, this sync doenst work. It works perfectly fine if I do it manually via the GUI (Windows) or via 'boinccmd --add_acct_mgr url weak_key' (Linux).

How can I bring them to sync automatically every hour?

THX in advance,

Jo (FSMB sysop)

If you are talking about BAM!, it generally only makes contact once per day. How often the client connects to the projects depends on the project, how long work in your queue will last, work cache and network settings and other factors.

At any rate, you shouldn't have to manually sync everything, unless you are not getting work--then there is probably something else going on and the log will give you clues as to what to look for.

THX for your info.
I was talking about the BAM-Account.
And I tested it today, they do their daily sync as they should.

Thanks again for your help.

Did you check the setting on your BAM-settings page?

Why do you feel you need to sync with BAM! so often? It's really unnecessary as all of the work and even your preferences come through the projects.

For two reasons:
1. The german FAQ says, that the sync to BAM is done every hour. I opened the thread cause I was curious why the sync didn't work over several hours.
2. I'll rise the sync-time during next two weeks. Fo now, I attach a lot of new hosts and i want them to work properly.

That could be a typo... I don't even see an equivalent item in the English version of the FAQ--so it could be outdated?

Unless you are changing the projects every hour, there should be no discernible effect on your hosts, new or otherwise. I suppose it could be somewhat helpful if you really wanted a fast response time to a no new work/detach command, but that's about the only advantage I could see to doing it that way.

I thought so too, but after some (quite lengthy) research, I found the English counterpart. Did you ever see the tiny "BAM!" link in the top left corner of the FAQ page?

[edit]I (belatedly) even checked the Dutch page: #55 is there too, even if at another place, and seems to say the same.[/edit]

I just looked in my translations, and I saw that I translated the sentence correct, but that the sentence itself was worng
As You found out, the english original was the same, and even Willys own nederlands vertaling was in some quite old fashion.

I will rewrite my translation to the real times, and give a hint at the right place to change the time. Willy will have to take care for the original and dutch.
I'l post this in the translater forum as well.

Thanks for finding this bug!
