I am going to buy a laptop and was wondering which processor would be better for Boinc ...a Turion64x2 @2.00GHz or a C2D@2.0GHz?

Anyone out there with experience or insight? I have never owned a lappy before and am using it as a mobile command center for Boinc when I am on the road so the primary function is really running Boinc. I have not been able to find benchmarks directly comparing these 2 cpu's and any help/advice would be appreciated. Thanks-Jeff

hmmm - no current CPUs to find there...

hot now: Dell XPS M1530 with Intel® Core™ 2 Duo-Prozessor T9500 (2,60 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 6 MB L2-Cache )

very hot: Dell Precision™ M6400 with Intel® Core™ 2 Extreme Quad Core QX9300 (2.53GHz,1066MHz,12 MB )

if you want a decent mobile netbook: wait until dual-core ATOMs hit the shelves...

perhaps our second-hand Dell expert (aka SID) can find you a Latitude D820 fitting your pocketbook..

First thing you want to do after registering Windows and updating or installing anti-virus software is to Disable VISTA 's UAC (User Account Controls).

Create a batch file named disable.bat and save it on your desktop with the following command to disable UAC:
C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /k %windir%\System32\reg.exe ADD HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v EnableLUA /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

*

Create a batch file named enable.bat and save it on your desktop with the following command to enable UAC:
C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /k %windir%\System32\reg.exe ADD HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v EnableLUA /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f

Run disable.bat and reboot the pc VISTA UAC will be disabled upon reboot
Run enable.bat when you need to enable VISTA UAC and reboot the pc...
