Nvidia's GF110 based GTX 580 should launch next Tuesday, November 9th. Although the specs have been rumoured for quite some time, we can now be pretty sure that the card will end up with 512 SPs, 128 TMUs and should work at clocks that are significantly higher than on the GF100-based GTX 480.

The card should end up clocked at 772MHz for the GPU, 1544MHz for Shaders and 4.0Gbps for 1536MB of GDDR5 memory paired up with a 384-bit interface. Another interesting piece of information is the actual TDP of the new card. Although it has more CUDA Cores and a higher GPU clock, the card has a slightly lower TDP of 244W. We still don't know if Nvidia is still talking about typical load power, as the GTX 480 or GF100 had 250W TDP, which was actualy a bit closer to 300W under full load.

Greetings Sid2

Things are starting to heat up with the graphics cards now. By the way where did you get your signature, I had a look on WCG but its nowhere as good as yours, or is it because you have clocked so many points.

tazzduke:

I'm a noob at WCG compared to some of the big dogs, the signature was created by a WCG cruncher, not sure he is still doing them [after the first few hundred].

Check out this thread.

Nvidia GeForce GTX 580 to be 20% faster

Most of the leaked performance improvements are attributed to a huge leap in the number of texture units: from 60 in the GTX 480 to 128 in the GTX 580. The specification claims are as follows: GF110/768 cores/512bit GDDR5, GF112/384 cores/320bit GDDR5, and GF119/96 cores/64bit DDR3. The GF112 is noticeably missing from the purported roadmap.

Nvidia GeForce GTX 580 graphics card set to launch on November 8

The average gain for the GTX 580 is around 17 percent over its Fermi predecessor and a whopping 45 percent better than the 5870. Of course, we don’t know how it compares to the forthcoming Radeon 6970 and 6950, and that’s ultimately the only thing that matters.

The performance gains come in part from the doubling of the 480’s texture mapping units to 128 and increasing the number of CUDA cores to 512 from 480. Thermal design power is down slightly to 244W (from 250W), but it looks like Nvidia is still low-balling that measurement since the 480 runs at full load closer to 300W.

The GTX 580 is rumored to be offered for $499, which will help drive down the 480’s price tag and will probably match the pricing for the eventual 6970. Assuming the 580 launch goes smoothly (never a given with Nvidia these days), it should set up an epic battle for graphics supremacy later this month.

. . . all 512 CUDA cores will be enabled... but let's just see what happens on November 9th when Nvidia officially launches the card. It's speculated that the card will be clocked at 772MHz with 512 shaders and 2200MHz memory. Additional rumors have it being more efficient than the GTX 480, with a TDP of 244W as opposed to the GTX 480's 250W of typical load power.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems these "leaks" are a pre-emptive strategy geared towards getting enthusiasts excited about a product to hold off people from buying AMD's latest 6850/6870 release. We'll probably get some "leaked" rumors of the 6950/6970 specs soon after the official Nvidia announcement.

GeForce GTX 580 becomes the Fermi-based card that should have launched earlier this year. It’s here now, though, and what we’re seeing today is a far more compelling offering. The GF110 GPU is still hot, it still uses a lot of power, but the board that employs it handles both attributes far more gracefully, adding a healthy dollop of performance in the process.

I went with 2 of the EVGA Black Ops Edition's, they are clocked the same as the Superclocked Editions are but were $10 Cheaper. The EVGA Line is the only line to carry a Lifetime Warranty too on the GTX 580's ...
