i have tons of dupes of the same hosts... since i brought the hdd from a previous host to my current machine the cpu is reported wrong... everything is just a mess. i'd fix it manually if that was an option. i'm basically getting sick of seeing wrong things in my hosts list.

Sadly that list can never be fixed. Mine is a mess as well and has been for years. Even though I have made sure that I have no dupe hosts across all my projects, this list never fixes itself. I wish you could merge hosts like you can on any particular project to manage and maintain your hosts properly, BAM does not allow this. Once BAM sees a new host as a new HOSTID (even though it is not a new/different host), it is added to that list permanently. I find it very irritating just as you do.

Your host list is reporting what the projects tell it to; if you have the same host showing up as different entires, it's because it has more than one client CPID. You can merge duplicates at the projects, and to sync them across projects, you can temporarily attach the host in question to the projects it has a history at.

Unfortunately, if World Community Grid is one of the projects, you can't merge duplicates. Some other projects also have fairly strict rules about merging, which can make it difficult if you're trying to clean up a mess after an OS upgrade.

The only one I have that I have not been able to clean up properly is Universe@Home Test, which is now a retired project. All of my other projects have cleaned up host lists.

I did some toying around with changing my e-mail address to acquire a new CPID to break a few links as a test. I was able to separate the retired project from the rest of my stats but it did not seem to change my host list with BAM. At first the host list would become empty, and once it would receive a new host list XML from a project the list would repopulate.

I then separated them all. Sure enough once I had a project, SETI@home for example, by itself the same thing would happen.

For instance if you were to go to my specific SETI@home stats page here on BAM and look at my host list for that project alone; it shows I have 21 total hosts for that project, with 4 in use. Now, on the SETI@home project site I have a cleaned up host list with only the 4 active hosts showing. All other hosts from the past are either merged with current machines or have been removed from the host list. And yes this is after click Show All Hosts and not just showing Active hosts.

For here on BOINCstats when I click on "Host list" under the "My BAM! menu", it shows a total of 4 hosts, after clicking Show All Hosts. I have made sure this list is cleaned up too.

I personally believe when a project is updated here on BAM from a projects host list XML there are still traces of these old hosts in that XML, and that's why they continue to show up on your public host list. Perhaps I am wrong, but that's my current theory.
