So you do prefer if a bank fails to guard your password or the hospital leaks the size of your penis to social media companies, they are punishable by law with potentially a fine worth their second thought? :-) I agree GDPR in the context of volunteer computing is completely useless and I also set everything I do to public whenever I can. However, I view this as side effects, albeit pretty unfortunate and inconvenient ones for us.
No, I said I DO care if my password is leaked, or if my penis size is leaked. But if they are then I can vote with my feet. If a company does something like that I change the company I use. Unfortunately I can't choose my government, I have to live with the one the stupid masses voted for.
But I care about nothing else. Especially something as trivial as my computing stats. What's the worst that could happen? Someone walks up to me in the street and says "Ha! I did twice as much processing as you last week, you loser!"
Every single thing the EU does is way over the top. Did you know we can't buy 2kW vacuum cleaners any more? Yeah, like using a 1kW one for twice as long because it has virtually no suction is going to make a difference....
