Hello,

There is a team which jumped from being nonexistent to being ranked 44th in the world in combined BOINC stats. This has got to be a bug - they have no project stats, no members, no pie charts, no daily stats, no anything, and I find it difficult to believe that suddenly they have conglomerated from thin air to be one of the top 'powerhouse' teams - 279000000 cs in a day? I don't think so.

Naturally this isn't the first time it's happened; there was a situation a few months ago, I think with one of the AQUA or MilkyWay cheaters, which was rectified...there have been some other questionable stats, but none as blatant as this. The name of the team is "SETI@Taiwan 隊" (the symbols are part of the name), and their stats are at: http://boincstats.com/stats/boinc_team_graph.php?pr=bo&id=6517825 .

Is it possible for it to be at least looked into, especially if the situation doesn't rectify itself in a day or two?

Thanks all - and hello, by the way. I really enjoy the site you've set up here; I get a kick out of stats in every venue of life, and BOINCing is no exception - I appreciate all the effort, time, and money you put into making this site what it is. Good luck, and thanks for looking into this - I hate to see this 'system' being abused. Take care and best regards,

With an appreciative look but an indignant swish of the tail,

p.s., if there was a project to notify, I would, but there does not seem to be a project associated with this group.

I was (kind of coldly) notified (in a DistRTGen bug post) with a curt answer to notify the project on their forums (when I had already done so), but my question is if there is an egregious error if it warrants intervention on the part of your site. I know other stats sites have protocols for dealing with anomalies due to cheating, inaccuracy, or data blips in order to preserve the integrity of the data/stats they report. Do you have no power at all - are you just an XML mirror site - or can you/will you investigate?

Thanks - sorry for the tough question, just putting that out there; I'm pretty direct and just state my opinion as I see it. Appreciate your site no matter what.

p.s., if you'd like a volunteer to proofread/edit your FAQ page, let me know - it could be a lot more professional and I think that would suit a site of this magnitude and with your ambitions. There are a lot of mistakes on the page, but it'd be easy and quick to clean up and fix - millions of people see it, so it may as well look good and improve your credibility. Lemme know.

Best of luck!

Technically, everyone is an XML mirror site... But there are other things done with the stats once they are imported here, yes. The link you provided reports "No BOINC credit" for that team so it must have just been a server burp. If it were persistent, then I'm sure admin intervention would be needed.

Take a look at position 43 and 44. Both are a Taiwanese team. Then click on the detailed stats for team BOINC@Taiwan, go to the SETI detailed stats and check the credit they had at SETI on August 24th: 279,335,196.

Back to the BOINC team list, check the credit for team SETI@Taiwan: 279,335,196.

My guess (and I'm alomost 100% sure) is that the founder of the team changed the name of his team at SETI. Next day, saw the stats here or somewhere else and figured out a) that's not looking pretty and b) split team stats. Then he changed the name back, leaving us with the remains.

SETI@Taiwan will disappear from the stats when the daily has run. If not, I'll hit the delete button.
