As we all know, these challenge stats is totally messed up - in challenge after challenge.
I am not sure what causes it, but its quite annoying. And many feel unsure about if what
"seems to be" correct, also may be wrong.
A lot of "new users"`s comes in from nowhere in the middle of the challenges.
There are users in teams that are not joined up to the challenge. And there
is also users that in fact is not even crunching. But in the challenge stats they get credit.
How is That possible?
And what can be done to fix it?

Well.. I have a request for these challenges. If its some kind of overload that cause
the stats to go nuts - then this may help.
Even if it will not have any affect directly on the stats problem, I think
its needed with some limits.

1. Allow only 2 challenges at the same time.
2. Each team should have a limit of how many challenges one can issue.

Say 3 to 5 pr year, max. Each team/founder would have to think carefully before
issuing anything, instead of throwing in a challenge issue just for the sake of it.

Any comments?

Very well put.
That is exactly what needs to be done. No more than 2 challenges at a time. The server cant keep up with the stats on more than 2 challenges.
A quota per year, per team, would be most excellent too.... Then some of the team founders, will think twice, about putting up Challenge after Challenge on their pet project of month.

It's not the server that can't keep up, it's my crappy code

Will look into it this weekend.

There is a limit on the number of challenges, sort of. No more than one challenge per project at one time, no more than one challenge issued per team at one time. Which make for a maximum of about 70 challenges at the same time, but I think there were never more than five.

Hei Willy. I`m glad you will look into it - Thanx.
and hoping you can find a solution.

Anyway - I still stand with my request about more limits
on the number of challenges - totally and pr team.
As more people discover this, there will come up more
and more at once. When it gets Too much, its not fun.

Fewer challenges should maybe also give more participants
in each one.

Yes.. others may have a totally different view..
so I hope for comments.

As far as i can tell, users' stats in challenges go crazy, when project is down for a while. It's like BS doesn't handle that situation correctly, e.g. project down? errr... nothing to do? ... GREAT! back to sleep! :] Though i admit i have no idea what projects serve in their xmls when they have problems or downtime.

I agree with what has been said about more limits on the number of challenges. I find it hard to keep the projects in order and a lot are getting ignored while others are being over worked.

Let's try what Moon has suggested.

What you do today you will have to live with tonight.

While I have no objection to limits on the number challenges I would point out that more rules means more coding for Willy... and more code generally means more errors.

As Willy has stated the problem is code. If the server can handle it let's keep the "rules" simple. Teams are quite capable of deciding their own policies on challenges and one doesn't have to participate in every challenge to have fun...

By the way has anyone checked global team stats as these, at a glance, appear to be ok. If this is true it's only the individual user stats that are wrong...

Thanks Willy and best of luck this weekend...

thanx for the comments.
The more comments - the better to see what may be the best solution -
at least out of the user`s meanings.

Even though PP is right about that more limitations will
cause more coding - It is so, that what may be a bit more
work in the beginning, may make it all much easier in the long run.
Fewer challenges at once, and fewer challenges in total (by limits of
how many we can issue) will make it easier to follow up, also for Willy.

Im still agree with me.

Well, thanks Willy for fixing the stats, but there's still something odd.

In the user ranking for the Einstein challenge there is a user called "Thetis" member of team " L'Alliance Francophone". (on position 29, score 26272 at the time of this writing).

However, if you look here you will find that he has no hosts active in the project and has not crunched a single WU for Einstein in the past 30 days. This is probably not the only one

I agree, there really should be a Limit to how many Challenges are going on at once, especially the GPU Project Challenge's (Collatz-DNET-Milkyway). There's no reason for someone Posting a New GPU Challenge to start just 3 Days before one that's been Posted already for 2 weeks just to try to Undercut the one that's been Posted already 2 Weeks prior.

As far as the CPU Challenges go it's the same Projects over and over again that get put up for Team Challenges anyway so either run them or ignore them. Problem with that is some of the Teams have Auto Sign up to the Challenges which make it appear that there is more participation than there really would be without the Auto Sign up.

Well... as people running the challenges already know:
All user stats has disappeard from the latest challenges.
When it comes to the "PrimeGrid Crunchers request"-challenge,
all was fine - until the last 15 minutes. When the Final update should come -
it all disappeard. This means that noone has seen the user stats
after the challene was done. Not very fun..

I dont know when the user stats disappeard from the other challenges - but i
guess it might have been in the same moment - The finish moment.

This is also what has happend with previous PrimeGrid Project challenges.
When it was finished - the stats disappeard. (Not talking about the latest few, where no stats was
to be found in BS at all for thes challenges)

So... is there any hopeto see this fixed.. ? or will we have to find another solution?

Unless I am mistaken, when a challenge ends the stats may be found at the bottom of the list. In progress challenges are listed first, then upcoming challenges, then completed ones. Congrats on your victory!

The Challenge did move to to the bottom of the list. What moon is talking about is the fact that when you click on the stats link for the Challenge there are no stats there.

This has been a problem with other PG Challenges too.

What you do today you will have to live with tonight.

Here are the links to both user and team stats: http://boincstats.com/stats/challenges_stats.php?pr=pg&chid=75&type=credit&object=user
http://boincstats.com/stats/challenges_stats.php?pr=pg&chid=75&type=credit
As you will see from these links only the team credit stats are there the user credit stats are missing.

What you do today you will have to live with tonight.

There was a problem with the SQL query that copied the finished challenge to the history table. This is solved now.
