i know that this is not real bug, because it was made with premeditation, but now, how can i bookmark my search user page?

since 2-3 days it is searching with exact match, but i would like not to have extract match... is there any option to do that? and if so, could you update FAQ's at this point?

The FAQ is updated, but maybe not in all languages yet.

I wrote and continue to maintain a firefox search plugin which uses the search function on this site (i can explain what search plugins are in more detail, but for willy, when someone uses it the request URL will contain "sourceid=Mozilla-search" incase you're interested or for web-stats monitoring)

is "exact match" the prefered method (for performance/server load reasons?) or is it ok to use a non-exact match search query as the default for the plugin?

Yes. The default exact_match=y was introduced to lower the load on the server while doing a search. If many users are using your great search plug-in (I'm using it too ) I think you should change the default value in the plug-in as well.

Check out this url:

http://pl.boincstats.com/search/result.php?name=Marcin

See? No exact match.

And now:

http://pl.boincstats.com/search/result.php?name=marcin

Lo, and behold! Exact match in action...

It is actually much more confusing than upper/lowercase as:
http://pl.boincstats.com/search/result.php?name=Willy
and
http://pl.boincstats.com/search/result.php?name=willy
both generate exact matches...

In fact, first url was the only one, where exact match did not work...

Willy, are you working on something right now, because now all results are without exact match...

Ouch, forgot to reply.

Did not work on it, but found a bug after Mchl's post.

Fixed it (of course )

I'm confused...

So, on default exact match is now supposed to be off?

From my understanding...

The search method is now set to exact=on by default

However, exact matching should be case-insensitive, that is, it shoudn't matter if you use uppercase or lowercase for any characters in the search query/string, eg Lee/lee, or Mchl/mchl
Either case should return the same results, and i think that's what willy fixed (or so it seems, searching appears to be working properly now)
