So the BOINC client is sending my BAM password in plain text across the internet.. With one of my computers being a laptop that I take many places, it would be very easy for anyone to get my password. Is it not possible since the site runs in SSL for the BOINC client to also?

Don't know if the BOINC client supports it in all version but you can replace http://bam.boincstats.com with https://bam.boincstats.com. From this end it works.
