Don't know when it started, but every page seems to want to use an ActiveX component nowadays. As I don't allow ActiveX I am confronted with a warning for every page opened. All functionality seems to be OK despite this.
So i wonder if this ActiveX does anything at all? Could it be removed from the pages?
TIA,

WimTea

There is no ActiveX used on BOINCstats, only JavaScript (want to keep it compatible with non-Microsoft browsers as well).

For testing I disabled ActiveX in my IE (not using it anyway) but I'm not getting any ActiveX messages. On what page do you get them?

I am getting it on the main page, the shoutbox history and some forum pages.

Then it's probably something on your system. Addblocker or something else. There is no ActiveX used on BOINCstats.

yes active X is used in alot fo the add's that you have on your site.. not a big issue for me most the time but i agree sometimes eithor addblockers or restriction to some sites do cause errors do to the adds but i have decided to live with them since i dont have the money to fully fund your site and ask you to remove them

i figured it was just an issue with my work on some of your pages but after this i checked and yes some of your adds have active x (or a version newer than my work has) and it will come up with a warning now and then ...

love this site and the hard work you are doing on it

thanks

Hmmm, I didn't think Google would use/allow ActiveX in their ads (ActiveX only works in IE). I know it uses JavaScript and Flash, could either of those trigger a ActiveX popup?

Maybe google doesn't use ActiveX but doubleclick.net does.
If I add *.doubleckick.net to the restricted sites zone in IE
I get up to three popup warnings regarding that disabled
ActiveX by secutity settings can result to inproper display
of the page.

But I took a look at the IE security settings and is says
"ActiveX AND Plugins". Could be that flash is blocked also.

I don't use doubleclick, but Google aquired doubleclick so maybe the are publishing doubleclick ads over adsense.

In that case, I'm afraid you have to learn to live with it.

I found the "offending" ActiveX component by simply switching it off- - it was the only one loaded, and hey presto, it IS Shockwave Flash Object. This means there is flash used somewhere on your site. On quite a lot of other sites too I found out and it seems they all have Google ads on them. Looks Google made some changes or, more likely, Internet Explorer security got upped a bit somehow.
Maybe M$ playing a little trick with a recent patch?

Wimtea
