when do you think the boinc community will reacht 1 PetaFlop. I think within 2007!!!

depends if you mean a peak of a petaflop, or a sustained petaflop

but as for opinion, well i think it'll be after 2007 at least, we've not even got to 0.5 petaflops (1 peta = 1024 tera, if i remember the naming scheme of the scale properly, although i've got a suspicion that there's another one between tera and peta, or it might be between peta and exa lol, can't remember )

anyway, i think it'll be a while before we get to a petaflop, especially before we sustain a petaflop for any duration, not that getting a peak of a peta wouldn't be an achievement

we need lots more crunchers before that happens, and we all know how to achieve that, pester your network admin to install boinc in the company fleet, help your friends get started, colegues, anyone and everyone, both einstein and rosetta have been asking for more crunching power for a while

We just need everyone to buy one of these, get 8 AMD Opteron 875 CPUs, 2 or 3 SATA HDDs in RAID 0, and 64GB PC3200 ECC DDRDRAM, and we'll hit 1 sustained petaFLOPS easily. It will only run US$20,000 or so.

So far the world's fastest computer is Blue Gene at 360 teraFLOPS.

oh dear, maybe we're really behind then

although at CPDN i read that (at the time this statement was made) their current production rate is equal to 2 specialised climate model supercomputers (same amout of work done over 10 months)

maybe this warrents an entry on the Panic mode ON (2) thread at SETI lol (original Panic mode ON)
