Yes GB, not MB

it has bee happy in under 1GB till this wknd

I tried adding WCG to my proj list and now none of my clients will dload for any project, even though no client is attatched to WCG.

Before I noticed that bam was down I changed some space settings on my BAM account and saved them, if that could be it.

just those 2 items were altered.

What makes all my projects suddenly need over half a terrabyte?
both windows and Linux clients

Did the change you made include saving your prefs to the projects? If yes check what is your disk quota in BAM! and if needed then correct it and again save your prefs to the projects.

Moved the thread to the appropriate forum section.

They don't need it, but they don't want to fill all your disk. Change the disk usage limits on general preferences.

well, now after doing the above I am told to free 697GB!!!

no proj is downloading, no space errors occur

the total space needed is less than 200MB according to the sum of their sys requirements.
why does it now say it needs almost 700GB....?

I just upgraded to latest boinc today to eliminate that.
It has made no difference

The projects do not decide anything. They just obey your preferences. You set them too high they cannot do anything. Have you checked what values stay for disk usage in your prefs(global or host specific)?

This is strange. Could you please paste the content of the "global_prefs.xml" and "global_prefs_override.xml" files situated in the main BOINC directory in order to see what prefs have got you your clients.

I do not have a "global_prefs_override.xml".

Problem found. This is what is written in your "global_prefs.xml"
<disk_max_used_gb>700</disk_max_used_gb>
<disk_max_used_pct>50</disk_max_used_pct>
<disk_min_free_gb>700</disk_min_free_gb>

Looks like Rosetta updated your prefs incorrectly. Try saving your prefs again from BAM! to the projects. If the save link is not visible change something in your prefs click on save then return the value to its original. This should resolve your problem

maybe
but upon reflection on those #'s i think those are some extremes I entered directly into a couple of my projects that were the 1st to complain about a specific amount of space needed, when the BAM! server was down this wknd.

I also forgot to hit the "save to projects" link. oops

so the de-syncing may have been partly due to that situation

btw the save to projects won't update WCG due to the read only status?

Yes. You have to go to WCG website to change any of WCG settings [edit](resource share)[/edit]. You can still attach/detach your hosts via BAM! though.

More info here, here, and here.

If your username on WCG isn't ./aal, BAM won't work. Blame WCG for that, there is nothing BAM can do.
