I've been wondering lately about upgrading to a new host, but the upgrade would be to a serious host the can put out some serous numbers of BOINC WUs. I'm thinking about something with dual i7 CPUs, or perhaps dual quad core CPUs, not sure which, but in any case it would have plenty of RAM to keep it humming right along. Does anyone here have any ideas what a super cruncher like this would cost?

If you have to ask, you can't afford it.

For about $2K you can build a BOINC screamer:

Find a recipe for a mid range computer build. . . BUT put in at least a 1200W power supply.

. . . stuff in a couple of the hi-end GPU's into it.

p.s. This computer will also serve as a dandy space heater.

Also, you want extra cooling. It's best not to assume that the PC is designed to handle the head of the processor staying pegged at 100% 24/7. The fact that you are toying with the idea of dual quad-core processors means the bugger is going to get really hot. Get yourself some extra case fans at minimum.
