I am not hurt by this but I am upset that all the other accounts were deleted.
I apologize to teammates and friends.

As for dlb......... well I will not post what I feel here because I respect Willy, the moderators and users here.

I will not apologize one bit to P@H, I tried to make peace on neutral ground.

It is blood on their hands now.

Not need to apologize. and for what ?

ps : somebody is having "big fun" at P@h, the 3rd team has been deleted.

The 'Let's say Goodbye' thread has shrunk from 241 posts to 3:

http://predictor.scripps.edu/forum_thread.php?id=2550

There were a few of my posts there. I haven't yet received any emails about the deletions. Maybe that's because of the time difference between California and Europe - at Scripps they are way behind and always catching up.

I'm trying to remember what I posted there that didn't need to be deleted at the time but needs to be deleted weeks later. I think there were some scrupulously polite posts by Aurora Borealis and John McLeod. No grammatical or spelling mistakes in them that could give any moderator an immediate excuse. Terve's posts have also gone! The three remaining posts have such high + ratings that they must have been considered particularly valuable and worth saving.

Heavens above...the Censorship thread is reduced from 77 to 3! Here too, extreme ratings may ensure survival for a tiny proportion of posters.

I'm delighted to see that one of my posts is still there! The one in the Cafe defending my hotmail account! More trivial probably = more valuable.

http://predictor.scripps.edu/forum_thread.php?id=2552

So sad, however, that 66.66% of the 3 people who were kind enough to reply to me there have disappeared. The even sadder thing is that I can't remember the names of these kind posters.

I agree Hotmail is good.
Wonder how Terve2 is going to respond to his posts being deleted.
Terve2, you have my sympathies, you having supported P@H honorably and having your posts removed without just cause for removal.

As my original account was deleted yesterday as well I thought it was my duty to reincarnate there. *LOL*
So I founded a new team over at P@H: BRAUNED for LIFE.

The posts disappeared because the accounts were deleted and not because the posts were moderated.
And because of this mass deletion, your posts were affected, perhaps or probably a problem in the db.
Never you will receive any emails.
Anyway they don't care because finally this is censorship.

Deleting posts later is a bad idea.

All these error codes at the top of some Predictor forum threads, like here:

http://predictor.scripps.edu/forum_thread.php?id=2550

I'm beginning to wonder whether some or all of the posts that seem to have been deleted haven't really been zapped. I wonder whether Predictor have been trying to update the forum code. This looks like some sort of forum code bug or problem to me. The last times the cpdn-boinc forum code was updated we had lots of similar error messages until the programmers sorted it out.

Hi Mo!

As I can tell for me (and some of my team mates as well): Yes, my account has been zapped! I cannot log-in and I keep being told that there's no such user with my email address.
Also here in BOINCstats my credits for P@H show Zero instead of something 24K.

I guess the forum errors are a result of those "missing" users?

because of that :
User with id 74907 created but nothing returned from DB layer

user with id = 74907 was 'Acmefrog' and the only thing that now you see about him is :
No such user found - please check the ID and try again.

He was in the Team BFL.

Well, shall I respond ? :-)
I would not mind, as I still could crunch yet, at this moment.
If I would, you know some of you put "minus" ratings, would I need to mind it ?
You know P@H has its own admin. If I dislike him, I would never visit. I don't like M$, but I visit. I don't dislike it. I don't like Scripps, but I don't dislike.

Hi Terve

Plus or minus ratings should not affect your ability to post there. But you need a minimum recent average credit of 1 to be able to post in any section. It would be perfectly acceptable for you to start a thread and ask why some of your posts (which I think were all very polite) have disappeared. You could also ask whether they will reappear.

Hi Edeltraut,

I deleted all "Banned For Life" members because of attacks on our forum
by its members. I have also reported the attacks to the service
provider along will all the associated logs. All of the attacks have
come from members of your team. We do not have time to spend dealing
with hackers. Predictor@Home is an instrument for scientific research
not a playground.

this is absolutely absurd! He must be crazy!
If joining a team which calls himself "Banned for Life" without posting (I could not, because I was banned - like the most of the others) is a attack or "hacking" then the admin misses any knowledge what hackers are. It seems to me he need a justification for his sick behaviour.

I have neither the time nor the possibilities to do a "attack" while I would never do this.
And I think the same applies to you and the other members I know!

Well I got a similar reply from dlb. My answer was:

Hello Mr. Braun.

I am no hacker and I really don't know which of those guys should have "hacked" P@H. In fact you know very well I couldn't post on your precious forum because of my RAC being <1.

You could inactivate accounts of know hackers. Even Wate's account wasn't deleted! (You remember that guy?)

I did nothing criminal and I think it's infamous that I am punished that way.

Many thanks.

Of course this is stupid.
Nobody attacked (?) "his" forum and luckily that nobody "attacked "his" server"...
Anyway what's a attack for Predictor ? people who don't stay silent and write (or try to write) in a forum ? what attack ? I would like to know
And now we are "hackers"...
So what' s Wate ?
And what log files will prove ? that people were connected on the forum ?

The day you want to return, you will be very welcome on my main project which is ClimatePrediction. You just need patience and stamina because the workunits are so long. There are lots of other projects with good forums, interesting members and workunits that really contribute to science. Have a rest from DC if you need it, but remember that these sorts of incidents are very very unusual, not one bit typical of boinc projects.

Sure there are lots of good projects with good people.
A joke if i'm allowed ?

So i will quote a now famous sentence :
If you do not like P@H go somewhere else. Please.
There are a large number of projects to choose from and if you look hard enough I'm sure that you will find one you like.

When people start making decisions for me on who I can and cannot join., then it is time for me to leave. If I cannot crunch for one I should not crunch for any.

Isn't that right Mr. Braun?

I thank the people who made, my time here worthwhile
A big Thank you to ThEfT and the entire Heidelberg team, who welcomed an American warmly. And to even Terve2, whose loyalty to his projects should be an example to any
workers on any project, BOINC or non BOINC

Ohh, please, don't leave BOINC as a whole!
I am really angry today as well and I know one needs to vent one's emotions somewhere.
But ist's not BOINC that is bad, it's just one damn admin at one project that was once worth crunching their units.

There are many better-lead projects out there.
As Mo said: take a breath or even a rest, but never quit the idea of BOINCing. It's way too great to get destroyed by one mislead person.

Btw: And you know you will be always welcome at our team. You would be missed very much if you'd leave completely.

Many thanks

Why did you thank him.

As far as I am concerned this topic should be closed. I think that PP@h Admins acted in a manner that does enter into the spirit of BOINC. I also think that harassing the admins was necessary to a point, but should have ceased before the Rubicon was crossed.

It absolutely outragoeus that credits have been taken away. Imagine the money that you donate to charity, not going to its intended need. That is a smack in the mouth.

Each team should decide whether existing and new members are to participate in PP@h. A blanket ban / boycott may make the admins think about their policies. (also future projects may take heed of the same).

But no matter what we say, almost 400,000 credits were granted in the last XML (14 May 2007). people will still continue to sign up and crunch. (even though there are 21 less members overall in the same XML).

This had to happen and we will learn from our mistakes.

I hope (but doubt it) that this will be the end of the topic.

Noel.
