Hello everyone!

Although I chose that work should be suspended when the computer is in use, all computers do not stop work when I use them.
Additionally the value für "used means no mouse or keyboard events during the last xx minutes" (translated freely *g) is not transferred into the preferences.
I tried changing the value and synchronizing my clients with BAM several times but still they do not stop crunching.

Setting "do work while computer is in use" sets or unsets the line
Code:
<run_if_user_active/>

in the XML sent to the host. I just tried the setting and when "do work while computer is in use" is set to no, the line is not present in the XML. This should work but doesn't. I changed it to
Code:
<run_if_user_active>0|1</run_if_user_active>

which also doesn't work.

I then changed this setting from the BOINC manager (Advanced -> Preferences). This also has no effect (BOINC version 6.10.13). Therefor I believe this setting to be broken in some BOINC versions.

It seems that you translated a bit too freely

There are two preferences:
'In use' means mouse/keyboard activity in last 1 minute
Suspend work if no mouse/keyboard activity in last -
The one with "no activity" is only for hibernation purposes and should normally be set to zero.

Did you set the first one? Did you check the online preferences at one project? Did you check your local preferences? They override the global ones, including those set by BAM!

[edit]You have to select "Run based on preferences" from the Activity menu to have the preferences take effect.[/edit]

You're right, I slipped a "no" into my translation. I did mean the first option.

I deleted local preferences several times and chose to run on online preferences.

But as Willy pointed out, even forbidding "work when active" locally doesn't have any effect. So this seems to be a BOINC issue rather than a BAM issue.

I assume you both don't have selected "Run always" from Activity menu. If so, it seems to be a BOINC bug indeed, with newer versions. My 5.10.45 works fine in this respect.

Just as we're talking it seems that suspension is now working.
Curious... I didn't change anything. And yes, "Run always" was off.

Perhaps a detection problem?

For windows, boinctray.exe must be running and for linux, I seem to remember reports of problems with mouse activity detection, at least on certain computer brands.

I can't tell what caused the problem. Nevertheless it works now and thus I'm happy :-)

Edit: It seems that suspension of work must have been caused by something else. As soon as I closed Firefox, BOINC was running again.
I will create a bash script now that stops/starts BOINC when I execute it.
