I wanted to install BAM on a new LINUX Ubuntu installation. Logged in as usual no problems but the Account Manager: BAM shows me as user:100807, aneves. My user ID is 349965, Cruncher Pete. Can this be fixed please or advise me what to do on my end if it is a problem here.

Thanks Gundolph. That is my typing error. My correct user ID is 34996, however the rest of the problems is the same. I can not use BAM as after I log in using my name and password it comes back with a different user ID and calls it a mismatch and kicks me out.

Please post the contents of the files acct_mgr_request.xml and acct_mgr_reply.xml. Remove all authentication codes. Send me the CPID (found in acct_mgr_request.xml) by PM.

it attached it to user:
http://boincstats.com/stats/boinc_user_graph.php?pr=bo&id=2211206
aneves
just like the 1st post.

was trying to see if i could run some docking on it, it has the run-on bug.
dropped that ideal put windows back on it.

odd that this user keeps coming up time and time again when attaching linux boxes via bam!

I also see user id way back when was 349965 and now it's 2211206

bug in bam?
anyway whatever. gave up back to windows.
this was just to let you know. do with the information as you wish.
and try to have a nice day.

Still haven't seen files acct_mgr_request.xml and acct_mgr_reply.xml from anybody with this problem. Need them to look into this.

OK, I'll bite. I noticed today that one of my computers claims to belong to someone else after sync'ing with BAM.

Here's acct_mgr_request.xml without obvious authentication:

CPID coming up in PM.

First instance of this mix-up was April 6th, around 15 o'clock (CET).

Hope this helps both of us

PS. Would it have been possible to attach the files instead of inlining?

Oh, perhaps I should mention that the files posted where "recorded" after I'd disconnected the host from BAM and reconnected it. Didn't do any difference at all (but I also did not delete any files on the host).

I used your XML to test what BAM! would do but it did just what it had to do, report a user not found (your XML does not contain a password hash).

I did find a double host-cpid in the database matching your host cpid. I did a check on duplicate host-cpids and it appears that double host-cpids are occurring a little too often.

What I found is that all duplicate CPIDs are occurring on Linux systems (most of them Ubuntu) which have the default host name (eg: "ubuntu&quot. This is where my check goes wrong. I always check for host_authenticator first because this is a unique key assigned by BAM!. But new or reinstalled hosts don't have this key yet. The I try host_cpid + host_name. Because I figured, everyone makes up his own host_names, BOINC assignes a random CPID, there can (almost) never be a duplicate, right? But it seems that on Linux (or at least Ubuntu) the cpid is not random at all and the host name is not set by the user.

What I will do is add the IP address to the check. This will of course result in less matches, even when it is the same host, because of dynamic IP's.

Yeah, I deleted the password hashes (you said to remove all authentication codes...). I'll PM you those.

It is a Linux host, yes, but it's neither new, running Ubuntu, nor using a defaulted hostname. It's also behind a NAT, so its own understanding of IP address wild differ wildly from yours - and its public IP address will match 2 other Linux hosts ...
I don't know what that will do to your checks, but I'm not optimistic ;-)

I _do_ have a Ubuntu based machine where I copied all Boinc configuration files from a previous installation (the machine is not new, but Ubuntu on it is). That's not appearing correct in the stats either, but that's probably a different problem.

So, any idea how I can regain control of Boinc on my machine? As it appears to be "owned" by someone else, it doesn't respect my project assignments, but rather that of some other guy. That amounts to "WUProp" which doesn't really do much Real good, and all recent WUs seem to be marked as invalid anyway.
Is there anything at all that I can do, or does something need to be fixed deep inside the database?

Sincerely,
Charmeleon

Uninstall BOINC, remove all BOINC directories, clean the regestry of anything BOINC, then reinstall. That should generate a new CPID and upon attaching to BAM! a new BAM!-id. If not, please don't forget to save the acct_*.xml files for me.

Wow, that was a larger operation than expected
Anyway, I'll get to work. Results later ...
