OK so I upgraded to 6.2.19 to fix a problem with freezing which worked fine. But now I can't quit BOINC properly because WU's that were either running or had been running and had switched to another WU are being suspended in memory even though I don't have that option switched on. If I quit BOINC they're still in task manager, if I end the processes then start BOINC up again at any time the WUs come back with computation error. I've tried pausing BOINC and pausing each task but I still have this problem. Is it a bug with 6.2.19 or something just going screwy. I don't really want to reinstall because I've got a CPDN WU that's been running for 140 hours (which I've managed to avoid the computation error with thank god) and every time I try copying those WU files to the new installation they don't register and I get a blank BOINC task page again.

You can't copy the WUs alone! You have to restore the whole (previously saved) BOINC folder and then install into that folder.

So make a copy of the folder (into the desktop), uninstall BOINC, copy the folder back into its rightful place and then run the BIONC install again? You think it would fix my problem?

I don't know if that would fix your initial problem, but it would prevent you from losing unfinished work. And it's worth a try.

You could also uninstall BOINC (after making a backup copy) and, without deleting any left over files, reinstall into the same directory. BOINC doesn't normaly delete project specific files when uninstalling.

Apparently you need to shutdown the client before exitting BOINC in the new version. Something to do with some projects not supporting graphics.

You need to stop BOINC when vista shuts down too quickly. That has been so with older versions of BOINC, too. The difference is that now BOINC is installed as service by default, whereas older versions ran as single user install (see Service install = Protected Application Execution mode at the BOINC Message boards).

Not quite correct. In Protected Application Execution mode, only projects with version 6 compatible graphics can show the screensaver. To see the graphics of "older" projects, you have to install BOINC in unprotected mode (which stops when you exit BOINC Manager).
