My guess is that as projects update their server code, they will pick up the new win64 string (however it is now formatted). But I dont know, time will tell.

I know Crunch3r was not happy (to say the least) about berkley going with their own string name again (they did the same thing with the unix x64 version as well), and not what had been established by the community. This is going to cause some problems until probably everyone is using berkley's client and server updates.

I installed berkley's 64bit client for windows. The I got work from the following projects:

Docking
Primgrid
Riesle Sieve
WCG

They all sent 32 bit appps.

SETI and SETI beta were down.

I didnt get any work from nano, but they do not have any work to hand out.

Now that RALPH added support for AMD64, I hope that Rosetta comes along soon.

I did get some from nano before they ran out of resends, so it is definately on this list when they come back.

Ralph has announced they have x86_64 apps but my host won't download any work for some reason. I am not getting the platform not found message though.

Ralph is a test project and has not work all the time.

dont forget that WCG is sending 32bit app to 64bit windows cients.

I couldn't confirm this in WCG's website. Can someone please provide some evidence?

I have a windows_x86_64 box running a WCG unit now.

With the 5.9.x client this thread will be pointless soon. All it takes now to support 64bit is to update the server software to a release later than 4/30/7.

Indeed, when the 5.10 client is released, there'll be no more need for custom built clients. However, so far, I've only seen signs of an official Windows x64 client. Of course, if an official Linux x86-64 client is not released, I'll continue my crusade. :-)

OK, I just got confirmation that WCG started supporting Windows x64 clients too. However, only when using the beta Windows x64 client from here.

I read in the boinc e-mails a few days ago that 64bit mac will be supported soon after OS 10.5 is released.



btw, 5.9.9 for windows x32/x64 and mac have been realeased today.

ABC beta dose not support berkley's 64bit client... :'( (they do support cruncher's though)

I'm LMAO ... since boinc decided to create a platform called "windows_x86_64" which does not exist nor is that one called that way, it caused a lot of trouble.

For those that ever had a look at an official Windows XP 64 bit CD/DVD ... Microsoft calles that platform "amd64" an NOT "x86_64" have a look for yourself on your windows xp 64 bit CD/DVD. There is a folder called "AMD64".

So who's wrong here ??? The ones that actually designed that platform or the ones that ported windows to AMD64 ....

Or is it berkeley that decided to "invent" a platform that does not exist ? Hmm....

I guess Microsoft, AMD and others( like CryTek... Ya know the guys programmed "FarCry" , which has a patch called "farcry_amd64upgrade_en.exe" dated from 25th mai 2005....) not even considering the projects that allready support windows_amd64...

Those are all wrong calling that platform windows_amd64 and have been wrong years befor berkeley intented "windows_x86_64" ...


Well i guess those guys have to rework their OS, GAMES etc to the newly created "Windows_x86_64" platform... because berkeley made it so.

All projects that support windows 64 bit are wrong too... well since i decided to port boinc to 64 bit windows ( both AMD64 AND I64 (Itanium)) that's been ..well more than a year ?

Support from projects for "windows_amd64" ...allmost a year ... well they are all wrong .. "BORKLEY" creates stuff that don't exist ... and well ...

I can conferm that rosetta sents 32bit app to windows x64.

also, if I am reading the tech new correct, seti (and beta) may now support windows x64. They metioned that they updated all the BOINC-side code to bring the SETI@home project in line with the current BOINC source tree. This is good news. (now if only a 64bit app would be created)

I see berkely now has version 5.9.11 for unix and unix x64.

I tried the x86-64 beta client for Linux and so far only SETI has current enough server software to support alternative platforms.

However, somehow this beta client has issues communicating with WCG. My client just needed the file ca-bundle.crt, but it doesn't seem to be enough now. Thus, before trying the beta client, make sure that any WCG WU is over and no new work is fetched from WCG.

So, even though it can crunch for an additional project (SETI), it stops crunching for another (WCG).

Thanks for the update Augustine, I'll continue using you client.

BTW, if SETI has updated it's server software and now correctly recognises the x86_64 platform then your client will work with SETI too. Or have I missed something?

can you try primegrid? I thinks its software was updated just a few weeks ago. Also depspid has said they now support the alt platform (at least for windows).

Surprisingly, my client still doesn't work with SETI because although it uses updated software, it's not properly configured. :-(

Both PrimeGrid and DepSpid support only Windows and I don't have any Windows x64 system. Perhaps others can chime in?
